MANILA, Philippines (CNN) -- After 10 years of being performed in London, on Broadway and other international locations, the musical "Miss Saigon" has opened in the Philippines, the origin of many of its cast members. Since it opened in 1989, the musical has consistently cast Filipinos in lead roles, including the key character "Kim," as well as minor roles, bringing talent from the Philippines to the world's attention.

"Miss Saigon" tracks the life of a Vietnamese bar woman, Kim, who falls in love with an American soldier. Kim's romance is thrown into turmoil when the fall of Saigon forces her partner out of the country.

The largest production of "Miss Saigon" worldwide, the Manila production is slated for a six-month run in the Philippine capital's premier theatre, with tickets for the first three months sold out.
